Prof. Prajapati Trivedi is currently a Distinguished Professor at the School of Public Policy and Governance, Management Development Institute (MDI), NCR, India, Honorary Distinguished Professor, Institute for Studies in Industrial Development (ISID), New Delhi, Visiting International Fellow at the IBM Center for the Business of Government, Washington, DC, and a visiting Economics faculty at the Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government, where he has taught various courses for the last 45 years. He also serves on the boards of the Institute for Studies in Industrial Development (ISID) and the Indian Trust for Rural Heritage and Development (ITRHD).
Till recently, he was the Commonwealth Secretary-General’s Special Envoy for SDG Implementation, Commonwealth Secretariat, London, UK. Earlier, he served in several key position in the Government of India, including, Secretary to the Government of India in the Cabinet Secretariat, Prime Minister’s Office, Chairman, National Authority Chemical Weapons Convention (NACWC) from 2009-2014 and Economic Adviser to the Government of India from 1992-1994. Earlier, Prof. Trivedi Worked as a Senior Economist with the World Bank from 1995-2009 and was the inaugural STC Chair Professor of Public Sector Management at the Indian Institute of Management Calcutta (1987-1992). He started his teaching career in 1974 as Lecturer in Economics at St. Stephen’s College, Delhi University.
He received Ph. D. (Economics) from Boston University in 1985 and M.Sc. (Economics) from the London School of Economics in 1974. Author of five books and several academic papers, he has worked in more than 50 countries around the world. An elected life-time Fellow of the National Academy for Public Administration (NAPA), USA, he became the first Indian to receive the International Public Administration Award by the American Society for Public Administration (ASPA) in recognition of his significant contributions to the field of public administration as a scholar and practitioner. Prof. Trivedi was awarded the Harry Hatry Distinguished Performance Management Practice Award for 2019 in Washington, DC. This award is presented each year by the Center for Accountability and Performance (CAP), American Society for Public Administration (ASPA), to an individual whose outstanding teaching, education, training, and consultation in performance management has made a significant contribution to the practice of public administration.
Currently he serves as a member on the following boards: Governing Board of the Institute of Studies in Industrial Development (ISID), New Delhi; Executive Committee of Indian Trust for Heritage and Development (ITRHD), New Delhi; Governing Board of the School of Management, IILM University, Gurugram; IBM Center Advisory Board, the Board of Virtual Museum of Public Service (VMPS), Boston, USA; and the Board of the Commonwealth Hub for the Business of Government, MDI, India.
