Shekar Sivasubramanian is the Head of Wadhwani AI, where he leads the organisation’s efforts to build and deploy AI-driven solutions that create meaningful social impact at scale. With over 40 years of global experience in applied technology and management, Shekar brings a unique combination of technology expertise, business acumen and large-scale implementation experience.

He began his career in the Indian software industry and developed an early passion for applying computer engineering to solve complex, real-world problems. He later spent 20 years collaborating as an Applied Scientist in Information Retrieval and Artificial Intelligence at Carnegie Mellon University. Over the course of his career, he has helped scale multiple companies from the ground up to billion-dollar-plus valuations.

At Wadhwani AI, Shekar champions a deployment-first approach to AI, with a focus on building practical, responsible and inclusive solutions for sectors such as healthcare, agriculture and education. His work centres on ensuring that AI moves beyond experimentation to deliver measurable impact for communities and public systems.

Shekar holds a B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering from IIT Bombay and an MBA in Finance from the University of Missouri–Kansas City, USA.
